The dark knight movie poster

The bat symbol shows the audience that the film will follow the batman franchise, this also tells the consumer the audience of the film will be comic book fans, mainly those of the dc universe. The title is shown as being The Dark Knight as the font is larger than the other fonts, this also tells the audience that the film will not be a darker version of dc universes batman, giving a hint at the narrative structure of the film. The  blue tinge of the movie poster enforces the fact that the film narrative has a darker/colder sense than the original batman movies being due to the fact that blue connotes to coldness. The fire in the building connotes to destruction and anger; this fire also catches the attention of the target audience which follows conventions of action movie posters. Destruction is also enforced by the slogan of "Welcome to a world without rules," this is also another key convention of movie posters of all genres. The slogan also suggests the villain that will be present in the movie poster, this is because "a world without rules" would cause chaos, and chaos connotes to the clown prince of crime which is also known as the dc universe villain The Joker, however, this would only be known by comic book fans giving another insight to the target audience of the film. The slogan being present at the top of the poster means it will be the first thing that the consumer will see, thus, reinforcing the importance to the film. The main image of the poster is a man in a costume, due to the fact that he is the only person seen in the poster we can tell that he is the protagonist of the film. The costume enforces the fact that this is a comic book film. The body language of the man is strong and confident, showing that he would be someone to be scared of and giving the sense that he is the hero of the feature. The gaze of the man in the poster is directed to the audience enforcing the sense that he is the protagonist of the film. The director being in small font about the title diminishes the importance of the director giving a sense that this is a blockbuster film. The main cast seen in bold white font, meaning that it stands out, shows their importance. Due to the fact these actors/actresses are all famous this could make the audience want to see the film because they star in the feature. The bold white font of July 18 is eye catching and stands out thus giving the audience important information about the film's release date; a key convention of all film posters.
